Nissan Motor has developed a new technology, Emergency assist for pedal misapplication (with Carpark Detection Function), inorder to reduce accidents caused by pedal misapplication.
According to the company, the new technology is designed to minimise the acceleration accidents in parking lots and other spaces.
The new system is claimed to automatically control acceleration if necessary and apply the brakes if the driver mistakenly depresses the accelerator rather than the brake pedal.
Nissan said Emergency assist for pedal misapplication will utilise Around View Monitor's four cameras and the ultrasonic sonar to detect if the car is currently in a parking space or not as well as find obstacles in the direction of traveling.
In addition, the company is planning to debut the Emergency assist for pedal misapplication technology on its new Nissan Elgrand MPV by the end of 2012.
