INESCOP and Ateval Have Come Together to Initiate The Textileather Project

The Spain-based Technological Institute for Footwear and Related Industries (INESCOP) and the Textiles Business Association of the Valencian Community (Ateval) have come together to initiate the Textileather project, a 30-month-long program to develop and check the viability of a new sustainable technology for leather and textiles finishing.

Dubbed as MLSE (Multiple Laser Surface Enhancement), the finishing technology will enable the treated textile and leather products to achieve antimicrobial properties, flame retardant functions and hydrophobicity.

The technology also features a constant drying process that can help in mitigating the environmental impact of the fabric and leather finishing procedures.

The MLSE treatment will result in the reduction of greenhouse gases, decrease in consumption of chemicals by 90 percent, 75 percent less water consumption and almost 90 percent decline in energy consumption, solid wastes, wastewater and odours.

Funded by the European Union’s environmental and nature conservation project supporting financial instrument Life Programme, the technologically enhanced fabrics and leather can be used in home textiles, apparel, footwear and other professional purposes.
