The Audi A3 Family Will Extend The Production

The Audi A3 family is set to expand with the brand’s first MPV reportedly given the green light.

Autocar reports a future Audi MPV, to be offered in five- and seven-seat configurations, has already been built by the German manufacturer as a concept car that could be revealed at next month’s Frankfurt motor show.

To be built on the Volkswagen Group’s flexible MQB platform – the same architecture that underpins the Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf and new Skoda Octavia – the MPV would feature an elevated driving position and longer rear overhang.

While Audi sales and marketing head Peter Schwarzenbauer previously told Autocar that the traditional MPV “was a boring concept” but that an Audi with “six or seven seats” was a possibility, Audi Australia’s Shaun Clearly told CarAdvice that there has been no official word on the project.

“It’s purely speculation at this point,” Cleary said.

Clearly did, however, say that if the company’s first MPV did eventuate, it would be a model considered for the local market.

Potentially previewed by the Audi Roadjet concept (pictured) first seen at the 2006 Detroit auto show, the UK publication says the final production model could still be three years away.
