Jaya Shree Textiles is once again working on a fresh capacity expansion plan for its Rishra based linen plant, situated about 30 km from Kolkata in West Bengal with a proposed investment of one billion rupees.
The development has come at a time when a one billion rupees project to boost the production capacity of the same plant by three million metres from existing seven million metres is already underway.
Briefing media, on the sidelines of opening of company’s third exclusive showroom of ‘Linen Club’ Fabrics in Tamil Nadu, Aditya Birla Group President -Textile Division - S. Krishnamoorthy said they propose to launch the new project upon conclusion of the ongoing expansion project in August this year.
The decision is mainly stirred by the growth potential of linen fabric market, which is expected to be worth Rs. 25 billion within next few years, he said.
Also, he added that with a turnover of six billion rupees, the linen division of Jaya Shree Textiles now accounts for around three-fourth’s of the linen fabric market in India.
Marking its presence pan India with 76 exclusive showrooms offering a wide range of linen fabrics and readymade garments, the company has considered Tamil Nadu as one of its key focus market, and proposes to shortly launch exclusive showrooms in Erode, Tirupur and in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
However, while retaining its focus on the domestic markets, the company is now also exploring prospects of exporting to Malaysia and Sri Lanka, and is also receiving inquiries from other countries, Mr. Krishnaamoorthy said.
