The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is preparing to ‘Chase the Dark’ on Thursday 14th November with a series of guerilla lighting installations that will aim to demonstrate the power of light in urban communities.
A total of 18 host cities will invite participants to shape an urban environment with light, creating several miniature lit scenarios over several hours. These displays will be installed for just a short time and trace the path of the sun as it sets in each of the designated cities across the globe.
The images of each light project will be captured permanently on camera and shared on social media using the hashtag #IALDchasedark. In places where no local events are being held, lighting enthusiasts are being invited to follow and share their own images and thoughts using the hashtag on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
The event will be locally hosted and organised by chapters of the IALD. ACDC is the lead sponsor for the event, and will provide all of the lighting equipment for each city. Distributors Inter-Lux, JSB Lighting, Rebel Light and Stage LED will assist with regional support and host local viewing parties for participating IALD lighting designers.
Kevin Theobald, IALD president between 2012 and 2013 and associate director at GIA Equation said: “Chase the Dark is of course an opportunity for lighting enthusiasts around the world to share their creativity in a fun environment. But it’s also a chance for us to unite IALD’s many local communities around the globe in one activity that emphasizes the power of light.”
