Ditty's Bakery,a bakery business based in Castledawson,Northern Ireland,has entered into an agreement to supply oatcakes to Tesco stores in Ireland.
Under the agreement,the bakery will supply oatcake and sweet oat biscuit products to Tesco's Northern Ireland stores this September.If the trial is successful,Tesco plans to introduce Ditty's Bakery products across its stores in UK,reported Bakeryinfo.co.uk.
This initiative is a part of Tesco's effort to support local food producers,especially in the artisanal sector.
Ditty's Bakery founder Robert Ditty said that sales of oatcakes have boosted the overall growth of the business.
While the wholesale segment represents 65%of the business,more than 30%is from the sale of oatcakes,Ditty added.
Currently,the company is developing new oatcake range,which includes a Bramley apple variety featuring an apple concentrate,and a sweeter digestive-style oatcake,which will feature a tea blend.
