US and Canadian Rig Counts Continue to Increase

Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending April 11, the US rig count increased by 13 to 1,831, following a nine-rig increase the previous week. The rig count is still up by 60 from 1,771 rigs during the same week a year ago.? The oil rig count increased by 19 to 1,517, whereas the gas rig count decreased by six to 310.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count continued its downtrend, dropping by 23 in the week ending April 11 to reach 212, following a 63-rig plunge the week before.? However, the Canadian rig count is still up 56 from 156 rigs during the same week a year ago.
