The exports of garments and textiles from the Southeast Asian nation of Vietnam to Middle East and Africa have risen to US$ 117.4 million in 2013, about three times higher than the value in 2009, chinhphu.vn reported.
According to the Department of Africa, West Asia and South Asia, under Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnamese apparel and textile enterprises have numerous opportunities to increase exports to the Middle East and African countries.
Several Vietnamese enterprises have bagged large orders, especially for exporting Islamic clothing with high-added value to the Middle East, the report said.
Moreover, Vietnamese apparel products like jeans, T-shirts and trousers are becoming popular in Middle East and African nations. These countries are also potential markets for other ‘Made in Vietnam’ products like children clothing and fabrics.
The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia were major importers of Vietnamese textiles and garments last year, with exports to the UAE reaching $53.8 million, showing an increase of 300 percent compared to 2009.
The Department of Africa, West Asia and South Asia is of the view that Vietnamese enterprises should increase investment in 38 countries of sub-Saharan Africa to take advantage of preferential tax treatment that these nations enjoy while exporting to the US and the EU.
In addition, some African countries also have raw material availability for the production of textiles.
