According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey decreased by 39.2 percent year on year to 82,977 units, up 7.7 percent on month-on-month basis. In the first five months of this year, new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey totaled 400,899 units, decreasing by 21.1 percent compared to the same period of 2013.
New passenger car registrations in May this year totaled 43,335 units, increasing by 6.8 percent as compared to April and down 43.1 percent year on year. Passenger cars accounted for 52.2 percent of total new motor vehicle registrations in the given month.
On the other hand, new small truck registrations in May increased by 8.9 percent month on month and were down 49.8 percent year on year, amounting to 9,740 units. Small truck registrations constituted 11.7 percent of total new registrations in May.
