Cider manufacturer Square Mile Cider (SMCC) has announced the voluntary recall of 2,500 cases of its products due to concerns that cider from its first production run may be refermenting in the bottle.
Refermentation is expected to cause the bottles to burst under certain circumstances and can lead to potential flavor inconsistencies.
The recalled products were sold in retail locations in California, Oregon and Washington.
The recall is limited to 22oz bottles of 'Square Mile Original Hard Apple Cider' and 22oz bottles of 'Square Mile Spur & Vine Hopped Apple Cider' with the markings 'Hand Picked' and 'Hand Pressed' on either side of the logo.
Both the products are said to be packaged on or before 15 May 2013.
SMCC brand manager Lorin Gelfand said the company takes all packaging and product quality concerns seriously.
"We are working with our wholesalers and retail partners to remove all affected product from store shelves as quickly as possible," Gelfand added.
