Nampak Announces That The Group Revenue for The Year Ended 30 September 2012 Increased

South African packaging company Nampak has announced that the group revenue for the year ended 30 September 2012 increased by 12% to R17.6bn ($1.9bn).

Revenue from the rest of Africa rose by 55% to over R2bn ($223m) with a contribution from the beverage can operation in Angola for the full year.

During the year, the company witnessed good growth in beverage cans in South Africa and has invested in additional capacity to manufacture a new range of cans.

The company's corrugated business has also improved with the paper mill contributing to the better performance considerably.

In the second half of the year, Nampak's Cartons & Labels and Flexibles businesses were affected by weakening consumer demand.

Nampak CEO Andrew Marshall said the company is on track to generate at least 35% of its total revenue from the rest of Africa by 2015.

"The strategy of investing in our core businesses in South Africa and growing our operations in the rest of Africa is expected to enable us to improve performance in 2013 and beyond," Marshall said.
