Rainbow Colours, which produces coloured guitar strings to make it easier for kids to learn to play music, thinks it's time toy stores stocked children's instruments.
The company's Chris Poole (pictured) told ToyNews: "I feel that toy stores, whether it's a large chain, department store or just a small independent, most of the instruments they sell are advertised as instruments not toys.
"And any guitar sold for £15.00 to £35.00 that I have seen is not an instrument, it simply cant be tuned and even if you get it in tune, after a couple of strums is out of tune again.
"Some of the name terms like acoustic and classical guitar are mixed up and sizes are listed wrong.
He added: "Rainbow Colours is a quality way to either teach yourself basic music at home and still be able to take the instrument to a school or private lesson.
"With the help of a demonstration video Rainbow Colours products will sell at a higher price, but customers will know they are getting a real instrument and the method to teach themselves. There really is no easier way to learn.
"Stores have the cheap instruments, which I class as toys, and then they have the higher priced instruments which are normally brand names like Yamaha.
"Rainbow Colours will fit in the middle. Many schools really like the method and teachers across the UK are using it in private lessons.
"Lets get a reasonable priced brand that can be sold in toy shops but at the same time being a real learning tool."
Rainbow Colours recently expanded its music range and it is currently seeking distributors to help it expand worldwide.
