Scotland Was Gone to by UK Skills Initiative

The University of Edinburgh played host to the second annual UKESF Summer Workshop, a joint industry-university engineering business skills initiative.

Companies taking part included ARM, Dialog Semiconductor, Jaguar Land Rover, Linn and Wolfson Microelectronics.UK Skills Initiative Goes to Scotland

UK Skills Initiative Goes to Scotland_1A 2011 CBI skills survey highlighted a severe shortage in science, technology, engineering and maths graduates and a lack of important business skills such as team working, communication and customer awareness.  

''Our experience in sponsoring undergraduates and supporting their skills development in the workplace has been very positive and I'd encourage more companies who want international success to get involved with schemes such as the UKESF’s,'' said Frith.

UK Skills Initiative Goes to Scotland_2The workshop was run partnership with Semta, the IET and industry partners, with the support of the Science and Technology Facilities Council. The programme also included a visit to the UK Astronomy Technology Centre.
