Indonesia Bans Announces That Its Export Ban on Raw Minerals Excluding Iron Ore

Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced that its export ban on raw minerals has come into the effect as of Sunday, January 12, to encourage domestic processing of minerals.

In last minute changes made at the weekend, the ministry diluted the ban to allow the export of copper, iron ore, lead, zinc and manganese concentrates for the next three years, while the nickel and bauxite industries are expected to be affected the most by the imposition of the ban.

In September 2011 the Indonesian government had issued plans to export shipment of raw minerals in 2014, including iron ore.
