Demolition of PPG Industries' Ontario Float Glass Plant Begins and Continues

Demolition of PPG Industries' Ontario float glass plant began recently, and continues with the removal of limestone and silica-based material from the plant's silos, according to an Oct. 9 Owen Sound Sun Times article. The waste will be removed and properly hauled away to a licensed waste disposal site, according to the article. Most of the eastern section of the old glass plant has been demolished and at least part of the property is listed for sale.

The plant was Canada's last float glass factory. It opened in 1968 and closed in 2008, due to a declining market and the cost to rebuild the glass furnace, according to the article.
