New technologies and novel green ingredients are the focal themes of the European edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit (21-23rd November, 2012)
The impact of new technologies on the sustainable development of the cosmetics industry is the focal theme of the 10th edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit that will take place in Paris on 21-23rd November 2012.
This is the first time a summit will look at the impact of novel green ingredients on sustainability of the cosmetics industry. Topics on the summit agenda include nanotechnology, mobile device applications, social media, stem cell technology, novel extraction methods, biopolymers, marine ingredients, and ethical impacts of cosmetics. An interactive workshop will cover sustainability and fragrances.
The 2012 Sustainable Cosmetics Summit aims to encourage sustainability in the beauty industry by bringing together key stake-holders and debate major issues in a high-level forum. The Latin American edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit will take place in Sao Paulo (24-26 September), whilst the Asia-Pacific edition will be hosted in Hong Kong (12-13 November). Like previous editions, the summits will bring together senior executives from the beauty industry.
The previous European edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit took place in Paris on 28-30th November 2011. Key discussions centred on greenwashing and false marketing claims, food & cosmetics convergence, growing use of plant-based feedstock, green formulations and distribution innovations.
"Pressure on cosmetic companies is mounting as resources become increasingly scarce, raw material prices rise, yet retailers and consumers are demanding more transparency. In an industry that has historically received much negative media attention, consumers are increasingly questioning the ethical component of cosmetic products," say the organizers.
Speakers from Ocean Basis, Yves Rocher, Guayapi, Expanscience, Marks & Spencer, Bulldog, Croda, Mibelle Biochemistry, will present their experience in implementing CSR principles and sustainability projects in their day-to-day business.
Judi Beerling, Head of Technical Research at Organic Monitor, will round up the 3-day programme with a half-day workshop on sustainability and fragrances.
