Gemü Is Constructing an Injection Moulding Plant in Emmen

Gemü, a processor of plastic components for medical products, is constructing an injection moulding plant in Emmen, Switzerland. The facility, which will more than double the company's existing capacity, is situated north of Lucerne and close to Gemü's present production unit in Rotkreuz. It will provide the firm with a state-of-the-art cleanroom manufacturing unit to allow for its continued business growth in the coming years. The first stage of building work started this February and will see almost half the new Emmen plant completed by April 2012. This is expected to offer Gemü enough capacity for growth over the next 10 years. The Swiss company, formed in 1981, is part of the family-run plastics processing group Gemü of Ingelfingen, Germany, which comprises three separate product divisions: medical technology, valves and industrial components. In Switzerland, where Gemü employs more than 100, the firm undertakes medical technology injection moulding of advanced polymers. It specialises in injection of high temperature plastics. Gemü Switzerland's services range from engineering, injection mould tooling, and cleanroom processing through to completely assembled, tested and packaged system solutions in plastics. The existing plant also produces valves, measurement and control systems, notably high-purity valves. These are developed for process equipment, ultra-pure chemical supply systems, clean water processing and distribution installations in the semiconductor sector. It also develops components in areas like fibre-reinforced plastics, products with metal inserts and mechanical post processing, according to Gemü. At Rotkreuz, Gemü operates more than 20 injection moulding machines with a clamping force range of 25 to 500 tonnes. It also devotes an area of 128 square metres there to manual product assembly. The new unit will offer ample space for automated assembly lines, according to Gemü. Source: European Plastics News
