Iran Daily reported that some 24.443 million tonnes of cement were produced during the first 4 months of the current Iranian year. According to the report released by the public relations office of the Industries, Mines and Trade Ministry, about 6.428 million tonnes of cement were produced in the country during the period between June 20th and July 21st 2012. The clinker production reached 5.637 million tons during June 20th and July 21st 2012. Earlier in July, Mr Mohammad Hassan Pour Khalil secretary of the Cement Industry Contractors Union said that cement output surpassed 17.99 million tonnes during March 20th to June 20th 2012 indicating a 6% growth against the figure for the same period the year before. He said cement output reached 6.5 million tonnes during May 20th to June 20th 2012. Cement industry in Iran provides raw materials for development, dam building, housing, employment and social welfare projects. According to the latest estimates by the Ministry of Industries and Mines, given the fast growing population and the ever increasing demand for constructions and development projects, Iran will need 70 million tonnes of cement per annum by 2021.
