The Imports Volume of Turkey's Pig Iron Has a Sharp Decrease in Q2

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the second quarter of the current year Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 190,026 mt, decreasing strongly both compared to the previous quarter and the same quarter of 2012. The country's pig iron imports in the second quarter this year declined to the lowest level recorded since the second quarter of 2011. Together with the 37.8 percent year-on-year decline recorded in the first quarter, Turkey's pig iron imports fell by 42.8 percent year on year to 417,312 mt in the first half of the current year.

Strong Fall in Turkey's Pig Iron Imports in Q2

In June this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 64,078 mt, down 40 percent compared to the previous month and down 28.65 percent from the same month of 2012. In June this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $444/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $494/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in June of the current year was $28.4 million, down 11.5 percent month on month and down 35.9 percent compared to June 2012.

Turkey imported 279,917 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in the first half of this year, down 39.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the first half, followed by Russia which supplied 145,852 mt, down 34.1 percent year on year.
