Mazda Bt-50: $48, 890 Freestyle XTR 4X4 Automatic Added to Range

The Mazda BT-50 range has been expanded to 22 models with the addition of a new automatic variant.

Priced from $48,890, the Mazda BT-50 4×4 Freestyle Cab Utility XTR is now available with a six-speed automatic transmission after initially being launched exclusively as a manual for $46,890.

Mazda says the decision to add an automatic alternative for the 4×4 Freestyle Cab Utility XTR was in direct response to customer demand.

Powered by a 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, the mid-spec ute features the range-wide 3500kg towing capacity announced in February, along withsatellite navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity with audio streaming, dual-zone control climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Front, side and curtain airbags also come as standard as does a locking rear differential, anti-lock brakes, stability control, hill descent control and hill start assist.

According to Mazda, of the 6958 BT-50 4×4 utes sold so far this year, 43 per cent of buyers have selected models fitted with the automatic transmission.

With 10,556 units sold in total in 2013, the BT-50 is currently the sixth best-selling ute in Australia behind the Toyota HiLux (29,917), Nissan Navara (18,726), Mitsubishi Triton (17,952), Ford Ranger (16,070) and Holden Colorado (12,896).
