Truck Freight Volumes Declined,But Truckers Still Hauled More Goods in April 2014

Truck freight volumes declined after March's spike in loads, but truckers still hauled more goods in April 2014 than the same time last year, according to data records from TransCore Link Logistics' Canadian Freight Index.

April's load volumes fell by 12 percent since last month, but year-over-year volumes rose 41 percent over April 2013. These volumes are the highest ever recorded for the month of April since TransCore started recording data.

Here's where the goods are coming from:

70 percent of all load volumes were cross-border 24 percent were loads travelling within Canada

"Cross-border loads originating in Canada destined to the U.S. sprang radically by 92 percent year-over-year," TransCore states.

Where do the U.S. goods arrive?

57 percent in Ontario 24 percent in Western Canada 17 percent in Quebec Two percent in Atlantic Canada

Goods travelling from province to province represented 24 percent of the total volumes for April and climbed by 31 percent compared to April 2013.

Where do they originate?

46 percent from Western Canada 30 percent from Ontario 18 percent from Quebec Six percent from Atlantic Canada

Where are they unloaded?

37 percent in Western Canada 34 percent in Ontario 25 percent in Quebec Four percent in Atlantic Canada
