DHL Express Has Commenced Business From a Recently Refurbished Port Melbourne Facility

$4.5m Export Facility Opens in Port Melbourne

DHL Express has commenced business from a recently refurbished Port Melbourne facility.

The refurbishment ensures the new facility can manage all pick-up and delivery services,as well as shipment processing for export and re-weight.In addition to new facilities at Port Melbourne,DHL has also enhanced its Melbourne Gateway(located at Melbourne Airport)with the introduction of a superior material handling system and high-speed re-weigh technology. These logistical improvements will produce greater efficiencies, particularly in time for the busy Christmas delivery period.

With significant volume growth over the last two years and the continued surge in overseas online shopping,DHL says it has been necessary to develop this new facility that will accommodate up to 50 delivery vans.

DHL senior vice president Oceania Gary Edstein said exporters are growing more confident of the economy, and Victorian exporters were some of the most confident, with 52%predicting an increase in export orders for 2013.

"Melbourne is home to some key industries, such as engineering, manufacturing and apparel, with large DHL global customers including Pacific Brands,Quiksilver,Sealite,Nissan and Black Magic Design,"said Mr Edstein.

"These industries continue to propel logistics and our new facilities form part of our strategic focus in Melbourne for the next five to ten years."

The Port Melbourne facility encompasses 605 m2 as well as a warehouse footprint of 4,645 m2,housing over 90 staff.(224)
