A new major global forklift company has been borne from the merger of two of the world’s largest forklift manufacturers. UniCarriers Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, has completed the transfer of all issued shares of TCM Corporation from Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd and all issued shares of Nissan Forklift Co., Ltd from Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
The combining of these two companies creates a manufacturer that will be ranked, according to revenue, as the world’s fourth largest forklift company, with sales of around USD 2 billion and over 5,000 employees.
Unicarriers’ mission is to become the world’s largest forklift company. The combining of the two companies’ development expertise, vast product range and global distribution, along with Unicarriers financial strength, is the reason behind such a lofty goal.
Commenting on the Unicarriers development, Nino Pala, chief executive officer of local Nissan Forklift distributor Powerlift Material Handling said its Australian customers should be excited by the move.
“This is a great boost for our forklift customers in Australia. The economies of scale that will be achieved by combining TCM and Nissan Forklifts’ R&D, manufacturing and distribution alone will ensure we can provide the market with the most effective forklift products at the right price.
“With Nissan’s strength in engine forklifts and warehouse equipment, combined with TCM’s expertise in all sizes of engine forklifts, particular with large capacity units such as container handlers, the combined product range creates arguably the most extensive range of forklifts available,” he said.
Powerlift Material Handling has been the Nissan Forklift distributor in Australia for over 25 years and has branches in every state and 14 authorised dealers supporting regional customers.
