Cai Guoqiang's large scale gunpowder artwork "Day and Night", is on display at the art space of Eslite Suzhou, Eslite's first flagship store on the Chinese mainland in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. Cai, the renowned Chinese contemporary artist from New York, created the 32-meter-long artwork in Taipei in 2009. A video on the live creation of "Day and Night" plays in the exhibition area, bringing visitors a visual feast of gunpowder art.
Cai's sketches for his artwork "Odyssey" permanently collected by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts are also on display. The show runs through Jan 3.

Cai, 45, was born in Quanzhou of East China's Fujian province and graduated from the stage design department of the Shanghai Institute of Drama. He is well-known for his installation and performance artworks that make use of Chinese symbols such as explosives, dragons, arrows, boats and herbal medicine.
