Unitech Printed Circuit Board Has Decided to Consolidate Its PCB and Solar Cell Plants

Unitech Printed Circuit Board has decided to consolidate its PCB and solar cell plants in Yilan, northeastern Taiwan into a single subsidiary in order to help stem losses from the solar cell unit, according to the company.

Unitech revealed that the Yilan PCB plant is currently operating at full capacity thanks to strong demand for HDI boards for smartphone and table applications. While market demand is likely to drill downward in December,Unitech expects sales of high-end HDI boards to remain strong in the first quarter of 2013.

The consolidation of the two plants will allow the PCB unit to utilize the resources and manpower available at the solar cell unit, which will be then able to reduce its overheads,Unitech said.

Unitech Solar posted losses of NT$198 million(US$6.82 million)for the first three quarters of 2012,according to its parent company.

Unitech currently has a production capacity of 1.2-1.5 million square feet of PCBs a month, with HDI boards making up over 60%of total output.
