The Lively Debate Will Continue with a Webinar

Urban Spirit of Light - a Webinar on Lighting Urban Communities

The lively debate taking place at this year's RCA Urban Spirit of Light seminar will continue with a webinar on Tuesday 16th October at 4:00pm to allow both UK and international visitors, unable to attend the seminar, the chance to be part of the discussion.

Sponsored by the Megaman Charity Trust Fund, the webinar will bring together experts interested in using light to improve living and working environments. Details on how to access the webinar will be available on urbanspiritoflight in due course.

The webinar will be chaired by Jeremy Myerson, Helen Hamlyn Professor of Design at the RCA. Both Megan Charnley and Tom Jarvis (Research Associates at the RCA) will provide feedback on the Urban Spirit of Light event on behalf of speakers such as Mark Sutton Vane, renowned light artist Raphael Daden and Nikita Junagade of LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International).

Megan and Tom will also discuss findings from the book 'In the Shade: Lighting Urban Communities' and the research project carried out in London's Boundary Estate by the Helen Hamlyn Centre.

The revitalisation project involved the introduction of tubular LED lighting systems onto existing public objects such as the goal posts in the recreation area, as a result of local young people not being able to use the facilities. One local resident commented that "The installation has made a real difference to the area, it feels much safer at night and the boys seem happier."
