Delta World Tire Co. announced that the company is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2013. Today the company is in the hands of the fourth generation of Bernstein family members, Paul Bernstein.
With 15 retail/commercial locations across southern Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the company provides complete automotive repair and preventative maintenance along with tire sales.
Delta World Tire began in 1938 as World Tire and Supply in New Orleans. Founder Abe Bernstein began his venture selling used tires during war times with one underlying principle -- customer service is first priority. He knew that excellent customer service, connecting with his patrons, was the key to his success.
World Tire & Supply transitioned to wholesale tire, tubes and supplies sales to area tire dealers and service stations around Louisiana and Mississippi. When the second generation, Dave and Harry Bernstein, took over, they joined a tire buying group called Delta Tire (now Del-Nat) in 1959 and changed the name from World Tire & Supply to Delta World Tire Co.
Marvin Bernstein, the third generation to operate Delta World Tire, transitioned from wholesale to retail. Together with long- time colleague, Sterling Broussard Sr. from New Iberia, La, Marvin established four retail tire and automotive repair shops across Southern Louisiana.
Today, as one of the area's largest independent tire dealers, Delta World Tire carries all major name brand tires including Michelin, Goodyear, BFGoodrich, Toyo, and Cooper. This year, sales will pass $29 million on 66,000 vehicles, including approximately 100,000 tires sold.
