Gross Sales' Growth of Lifeway Foods in Q2

Lifeway Foods, a US-based supplier of cultured dairy products, has reported gross sales of $22.7m in the second quarter (Q2) ended 30 June 2012, an increase of 14%, compared to $19.9m to the same period the previous year.

This increase is primarily attributable to increased sales and awareness of the company's flagship line, Kefir, as well as ProBugs Organic Kefir for kids and BioKefir.

Total consolidated net sales increased 13% to $20.6m during the three-month period from $18.2m during the prior year period.

Gross profit increased 46% to $8.0m, compared to $5.5m in the second quarter of the previous year.

Total operating income increased $2.4m to $3.1m from $0.7m during the same period in 2011.

Lifeway Foods CEO Julie Smolyansky said that their higher net sales combined with the benefit from lower milk prices and tightly controlled expenses enabled them to report a quarterly earnings increase of 650%, the strongest in their history.

Lifeway Kefir is a dairy beverage that contains ten exclusive live and active probiotic cultures plus ProBoost.
