Business Line reported that IVRCL Ltd and its JV partner Unity have drilled a record 57.38 meter of tunnel in a cycle of 24 hours.
This record was achieved on a Raw Water Tunnel project being executed for the Municipal Corporation of Brihan Mumbai. The boring diameter of the tunnel is 6.25 meter with a finished diameter of 5.5 meter.
This tunnel is being bored with the help of a Main Beam Type Tunnel Boring Machine in hard rock. The total length of the tunnel is 8,250 meter extending from Kapurbavdi to Bhandup in Mumbai and runs 68 meters below main sea level.
The IVRCL Unity JV has so far bored a length of 2,500 meter.
According to a company statement, the IVRCL Unity JV achieved the record 57.38 meter of tunnel boring in a 24 hour cycle on December 12tn 2012.
