Aimed at the family market, Lil' Troops have been stripped of their weapons in place of friendlier accessories.

US collectibles firm Party Animal Inc has launched the world's first line of action figures officially licensed by the US Army.

Aimed at the pre-school market, the collection of Lil' Troops consists of five different figures to collect alongside a range of accessories.

However, conscious of the family market the firm is targeting, Party Animal has stripped the soldiers of their weapons, with the most dangerous accessory amounting to a pair of binoculars.

"The deal has been in the works for about 18 months," McKenna Lovelace Vietmeier, marketing co-ordinator for Party Animal told Military Times.

"We do have demographic that is younger and we are sensitive about getting in to a field or introduce something with weapons and violence. That's not really our market. We really want to make it family friendly."

The set features a Desert Trooper with a canteen, an Infantryman holding a flag, Rescue Pilot with first aid bag, Recon Scout clutching binoculars and Urban Trooper with a handheld radio.

A portion of each Lil' Troops sale will be donated to US Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation programmes.
