The Australian dollar was slightly higher ahead of a speech by US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke.
At 6.30am AEDT the currency was trading at 105.68 US cents, up from 105.56 US cents at yesterday’s local close.
The currency traded in a tight range of between 105.48 US cents and 105.79 US cents overnight.
It was a quiet night of trading on US stock markets, with traders waiting for Dr Bernanke's speech after US markets close and a string of corporate earnings results this week.
Dr Bernanke is expected to provide further insight into the Fed's stimulus plans, amid speculation the central bank could end its bond-buying program as early as this year.
