The South Korean steel giant Posco currently said that it planned to commission its cold rolled (CR) stainless steel plant in Izmit, Turkey in next April.
Posco started the construction of the Turkish CR stainless steel plant in September, 2011 and the designed annual output for the plant is 200,000 tons.
It’s learned that the Turkish stainless steel plant will mainly produce CR stainless steel coils with thickness of 0.4mm~5mm and width of 1,600mm.
Posco expected that the new stainless steel plant will help to meet the demand from the Turkish domestic market and then supply to overseas market.
In 2010, Turkey’s imports of stainless steel products totaled 327,000 tons. Among them, 93% were cold rolled stainless steel products.
It’s predicted that Turkey’s imports of stainless steel products would reach 425,000 tons in 2013.
