Taipei,Dec.20,2012(CENS)--Some 18,949 servers were sold in Taiwan in the third quarter of 2012,up 6%from the same period of last year,or year-on-year(YoY),and a 9%increase from previous quarter,or quarter-on-quarter(QoQ),according to IDC Taiwan, the local subsidiary of the global market intelligence provider.
Total sales revenue was US$84 million, down 1%YoY but up 8%QoQ.
Leon Kao,Market Analyst,PC&Peripherals Group of IDC Taiwan, pointed out that the third quarter is the traditional peak season, which drove up demand for servers to the normal level. However,he added, the fierce price-cutting competitions among x86 server vendors drove the average selling prices(ASP)down about 7%YoY during the period.
Unit shipments of x86 servers were 18,730 units,a 5%QoQ increase and a 7%YoY increase.Sales revenue of such type servers was US$54.3 million,down 3.4%YoY.
In terms of shipments, the top-five server brands in the period were HP,IBM,Dell,Asus, and Acer.
Due to the pressure from x86 mainstream models, the shipment of non-x86 servers was 219,while revenue from such product grew by 25%and 3%from previous quarter and a year earlier, respectively,to reach US$29.2 million.IBM,HP,and Oracle maintained their leading positions in the non-x86 market,IDC Taiwan said.
In 2013,IDC Taiwan said, demand from technology manufacturers`production-line expansion plans and financial/telecom companies`system upgrade projects is expected to continue driving up the domestic server market.
