PLASA's Matthew Griffiths Commented It Managed to Raise EUR3500 for Light Relief Charity

UK-Friday 14 September saw the inaugural PLASA Golf Day at the Drift Golf Club in Surrey,organised by PLASA with assistance from White Light and Delta Sound,the proceeds of the day went to Light Relief.

 

Teams were entered by companies throughout the events industry;manufacturers from the lighting and sound sides of the industry(Martin Professional&Meyer Sound)as well as rental&sales companies(White Light,Autograph&Delta Sound).The video industry was represented by a team from Creative Technology with the rigging fraternity represented by Unusual Rigging.Ted Moore from Stage Technologies was flying the flag for the automation sector.End users were also represented with teams from Ambassadors Theatre Group and the English National Opera.

Once the scores were added up,it was the Autograph team who was victorious and claimed first prize over Meyer Sound.The second place team was deducted half a point when sales director,Roger Harpurn,was spotted on the driving range practising two and a half hours before the start time.Audio suppliers for the Olympics,Sports Technology,showed that their demanding summer schedule hadn't completely exhausted them as they managed to cruise triumphantly into third place out of the 17 teams who entered.Plasa Golf Event Raises £ 3500 for Light Relief

White Light's Bryan Raven stated,"The clean sweep by the audio companies means we need to spend more time on the golf course over the next few months before the next time."

Delta Sounds'Lee Dennison reported:"Yet again,we have proved that the sound side of the industry leads the way in all areas."

PLASA's Matthew Griffiths commented,"A round of golf in the sunshine was a perfect way to round off the week that also saw the last ever PLASA show at Earls Court.We also managed to raise£3500 for the Light Relief Charity which is a great result-we look forward to organising another Golf Day in the spring next year."

The money was raised by a mixture of entry fees from the players and several companies sponsoring a hole each.Sponsors included MeyerSound,Autograph,Delta Sound,White Light,PLASA,Creative Technology and Martin Professional.

Light Relief is a charity established by and for the entertainment industry,to help in times of extreme hardship.Formed to help theatre lighting designers and those working in the field who are not in regular full-time employment,Light Relief can provide either practical support or financial help,depending on individual need.
