Taiwan market: 240,000 LCD TVs, monitors expected to be sold under second-wave energy subsidies Julian Ho, Taipei; Alex Wolfgram, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 29 May 2012] An estimated 240,000 LCD TVs and monitors as well as 110,000 air conditioners will be sold this summer in Taiwan due to its government's launch of subsidies valued at NT$700 million (US$23.7 million) for energy-saving electric and electronic appliances.
Subsidy distribution began on May 17 and will last for three months, with NT$2,000 amounts being distributed to applicable households. The subsidies, coupled with clearance sales major Taiwan TV makers are holding, are expected to increase LCD TV sales by 30%, according to sources.
Sources also said that due to rising energy prices in Taiwan along with new TV technology that will be heavily displayed during the Summer Olympics will cause consumers to purchase LCD TVs along with more energy saving air conditioners and refrigerators.
The subsidies can be used for both Taiwan and international brands.
