Intermodal rail volume for February rose 1.1% compared with the same time last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Intermodal volume rose to 993,807 units in February, the 51st consecutive year-over-year monthly increase, AAR said.
"It would be nice to be able to separate out the effects of the harsh winter on rail traffic, but we can't do that. We can probably expect improvements in the rail numbers in the months ahead, assuming that the weather and the economy cooperate," AAR Senior Vice President John Gray said in a statement.
Nine of the 20 categories tracked by AAR posted increases in November from the prior year, led by grain which rose 12.3%.
Intermodal volume for the week increased 3.4% to 257,710 year-over-year, the rail trade group said.
