Imagine sitting at a large round table with 159 other people, enjoying a gourmet entree when a large circular chandelier above you begins to slowly lower. After a few minutes your once free form table is now encased by an illuminated tunnel of sparkling lights. This seems like a new concept, yet this was actually used in Frankfurt’s 1980′s restaurant, the Schirn Caf .

The glory of the Schirn Caf’s concept dissolved and in the spring of 2009 TABLE emerged. TABLE chose to incorporate Schirn Caf’s ‘massive post-modern monument’ into their cafe decor, combined with a fresh menu and clean decor. The redesign of Schirn Caf’s eclectic moving chandelier started as a what if – think-tank project with the designers and architects at Stylepark.
How does it work?
Extreme height of the space was needed, about 50 feet A curtain would need to fit around the large round terrazzo table A motor in the ceiling controls the curtain’s up and down movement Curtain Size: 23 Feet Tall x 16 feet Wide Made of single chains of light The chains of light are suspended from the curtains structure
TABLE’s expressive moving curtain display adds a playful and theatrical moment to the clean design of the cafe’s architecture and interior decor. Who knows, this could be the beginning of a worldwide restaurant phenomena?
