Commercial vehicle manufacturing flagship of the India-based Hinduja group, Ashok Leyland has secured a vehicle supply order from the Government of Sri Lanka.
Under the order, the manufacturer will supply 2,200 buses for the Sri Lankan Transport Board (SLTB), representing one of the largest purchases by the entity.
The order is part of the Government's plans to modernize its existing fleet in order to improve the country's public transport network.
Ashok Leyland managing director Vinod Dasari said this is a huge order especially at a time when the domestic market is just about to bounce back.
"This order reaffirms our strategy to substantially enhance our sales outside India," Dasari added.
As per the deal, Ashok Leyland will supply the 2200 buses over the next six months.
The deal is expected to help Ashok Leyland strengthen its position in Sri Lanka as an important stake holder in the country's transport.
