Italian sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini is planning to produce its Urus sport utility vehicles (SUV) at Volkswagen Group's facility in Slovakia from 2017.
The SUV is expected to be based on revamped version of the Volkswagen's MLB platform, which is also expected to support procuction of the next-generation Porsche Cayenne.
The change in manufacturing venue follows doubts if the company's current factory in Italy could support production of vehicles to meet the estimated sales plan.
Following the start of production, Lamborghini plans to sell 3000 to 4000 units per year.
Other vehicles currently produced at the Slovakia facility include the Volkswagen Touareg and also bodies for the Bentley SUV.
Volkswagen is also upgrading its Bratislava factory and has reportedly installed its largest metal press to manufacture steel and aluminium body panels for the Urus, Cayenne, Q7, Touareg as well as the Bentley vehicles.
