What was until now the biggest pellet plant in Scandinavia, with annual technical capacity of 450,000 t, will be shut down by the end of the year. The executive board of the Norwegian pellet producer BioWood Norway AS, AverØya, made the associated decision on 21 November 2012. The move was justified by surplus capacity on pellet markets, low selling prices and technical problems at the plant, which was commissioned in the spring of 2010. According to BioWood‘s parent company Hafslund ASA, Oslo, the pellet plant has at no time since commissioning achieved sufficient technical performance. Various attempts to make the plant viable have apparently failed.
