US-based ingredients supplier Omya is voluntarily recalling certain lots of food grade ground limestone products processed at its facility in Arizona due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The products being recalled include Omya-Cal FG-4 AZ, Omya-Cal FG-10 AZ and Omya-Cal FG-15 AZ.
The recalled products were sold distributors and/or manufacturers as ingredients for further processing in the US.
There have been no reported reactions associated with these recalled products, the company noted.
Omya has initiated the recall although an investigation is going on and has contacted the US Food and Drug and Administration (FDA).
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacterium may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may result in serious and sometimes deadly infections.
