Clothing retailer Next has placed a£4m order with Projection Lighting to replace 35w lRC dichroic lamps in its UK stores with 90,000 LED luminaires.The contract is thought to be one of the largest LED replacement programmes seen in the retail sector to date.
The luminaire supplier said that Next issued a detailed specification followed by a weighted E auction.Projection Lighting's AlphaLED luminaires were trialled in six stores to prove payback,including savings on air conditioning.The study found that energy savings amounted to 34 per cent and the first of three deliveries over six months is scheduled for September this year.
'This is one client who knew what they were buying.It's the most well informed spec I have ever seen from a customer and with the weighted E auction it takes due diligence to a new level,'said Jeff Stephens,director,Projection Lighting.
