The contract price of polysilicon has been falling from an average of US$20/kg in the third quarter to US$17-18/kg recently.
Solar wafer firms noted that firms that do not have supply contracts with upstream suppliers have been procuring polysilicon, which has been dumped by other firms in need of cash, on the spot market. Nevertheless, some makers pointed out that quantities available on the spot market are not enough to fulfill demand, hence firms also depend on contract supplies.
A spot price of polysilicon of around US$15/kg has become a key for solar wafer and cell firms in negotiating contract prices with polysilicon makers.
