British luxury carmaker Jaguar is set to manufacture six units of the Lightweight Special GT E-type sports cars, as part of a re-creation project to build the 'missing' Lightweights that were never built from the intended 18-car series
Powered by the 3.8L six-cylinder engine, the vehicles are claimed to deliver an output of about 200kW.
The company had built only 12 of the aluminum bodied Lightweight E-types with the last in 1964 and will now build the remaining ones according to the same specifications of their predecessors.
According to the company, the Lightweight cars are about 114kg (250lb) less in weight compared to the standard E-type, due to the all-aluminium body and engine block as well as a lack of interior trim and exterior chrome work.
Jaguar is planning to launch the first new Lightweight E-type sports vehicle in late summer of 2014.
