Solar Cell Makers Keep Their Lowest Quotes at Around US$0.35/Watt in Mid-October

Lowest solar cell price remains at US$0.35/watt in mid-October Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Wednesday 17 October 2012]Taiwan-based solar cell makers have been keeping their lowest quotes at around US$0.35/watt in mid-October.Firms have been cutting capacity and would rather reduce production than agree to lower prices.

The market in China continues to be in severe price competition, which means lower prices may be available.Solar firms believe the continuous support from the China government will prolong the current market chaos.

Taiwan-based solar cell makers have been seeing falling orders and have been adjusting capacity accordingly. The price of solar cells in September fell below US$0.40/watt and by end of September, the price had fallen to US$0.38/watt.

Taiwan-based solar firms plan to hold the lowest possible quotes at US$0.35/watt,as lower prices would mean incurring losses.

Some Taiwan-based solar firms have been seeing a slight rebound of orders. This rebound is likely due to the announcement of the final verdict of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against China-based solar firms by the US Department of Commerce on October 10,2012,as China-based firms look to transfer orders to Taiwan-based peers.

China-based vertically integrated solar firm JA Solar recently received a delisting warning from the NASDAQ as its closing price has been under US$1 for more than 30 trading days.
