22.11.2012 − in the third quarter of 2012, the 27 EU countries took delivery of roughly 3% less hardwood lumber from the USA than in the same period of last year at 81,890 m³. As such, there has been no change in the downturn in hardwood lumber exports from the USA to Europe that had already been observed in the first two quarters of this year but the rate of decline was slower than in the first quarter (-9%) and the second quarter (-23%). According to information from the Foreign Agriculture Service, the slowing in the rate of decline was mainly attributable to the recent sharp increase in deliveries of yellow-poplar lumber that was able to almost compensate for the reductions in the other wood species.
