British sport utility vehicles (SUV) manufacturer Land Rover is developing a new invisible car technology, Transparent Bonnet, which makes the front of the car virtually invisible.
The technology will enable the cameras located in the vehicle's grille to capture information used to feed a head-up display. It will create a see-through view of the road through the bonnet and engine bay.
It will also provide drivers, who climb steep inclines, with an augmented reality view by capturing terrain in front of the car along with the angle and position of the front wheels.
Jaguar Land Rover research and technology director Wolfgang Epple said that as the company's vehicles become more capable and autonomous off-road, it will ensure the driver has the confidence to allow the car to continue to progress over any terrain.
"We are developing new technologies including the Transparent Bonnet to give drivers anaugmented view of reality to help them tackle anything from the toughest off-road route to the tight confines of an urban car park," Epple added.
