Diesel and gasoline both fell for a second straight week, with diesel declining 1.3 cents to $3.873 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported.
Gas fell 3.1 cents to $3.296, DOE said Jan. 21 following its weekly survey of filling stations.
The declines left diesel 2.9 cents below its level of a year ago and gasoline 1.9 cents cheaper than the corresponding week last year.
Diesel had dropped 2.4 cents last week, while gas had dipped a half-cent. Prior to that, both fuels had increased for three straight weeks.
Each week, DOE surveys about 400 diesel filling stations and 800 gasoline stations to compile national average prices.
