Changes at the Australia Furniture Association (AFA) Council
Published on : Wednesday, January 22, 2014
The Australia Furniture Association (AFA) reluctantly advises Members and other stakeholders that its President, Mr Joe Mimmo, has made the decision to resign from his role on the Council of the AFA.
Joe’s contribution to the industry spans nearly 59 years and he has held the position of President since 2008, recently overseeing a number of significant changes at the Association. Joe notes that the most challenging aspect during his time as President of the Association was making the decisions for the benefit of the industry as a whole.
Upon his retirement from the Council, Joe wished to stress that the survival of furniture manufacturing in Australia relies on industry figures coming together, to work towards fundamentally improving the industry as a whole, and securing the industry’s future – ‘We need to be more united to ensure that our industry grows and thrives. We must strengthen the voice of our industry and to maximise our international and export potential. This means getting behind the Association which is working hard to support members.’
Joe also stressed the importance of the Industry’s most important event, the trade show Furnitex saying ‘all members need to support Furnitex as much as possible, by physically showcasing their products where they can, and assisting in creating industry awareness of it’.
Joe’s decision to resign will take immediate effect, and he will now focus on the growth of his own business and spending quality time with his family. Joe has thanked his fellow councillors and members for their continued support. Joe has advised that if anyone within the industry has an issue that he may be able to assist with he is more than happy to help – please contact the AFA office to be put in touch with Joe.
The role of the AFA President will be filled by Ms Brooke Winter, who has been an AFA Councillor since 2010.
Brooke is the General Manager of Flamingo Furniture, a family furniture manufacturing business based in Bayswater, Victoria. Brooke has grown up in the industry and was appointed to the position of General Manager of Flamingo Furniture three years ago.
Brooke is committed to the continued and prosperous future of the Australian furniture industry. Her vision as President of the AFA is to see the Association become a stronger industry body that actively assists its members and brings Australian manufactured furniture to the forefront of every current and potential customer’s mind.
The AFA welcome Brooke as President of the AFA and wishes her all the best in her new and exciting role.
