Administrative formalities for implementing EU’s Autonomous Trade Preference (ATPs) to Pakistan are underway and they are likely to be implemented from October 2012, Munawar Saeed Bhatti, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Brussels and the EU has said.
The EU ATPs, which were granted on 13th of September, would allow duty-free export of around 75 Pakistani products, mainly textiles and clothing, to the EU markets till December 31st 2013.
The trade concessional package is seen as a sign of growing trade relations between EU and Pakistan by the industry experts. The concession package is expected to create new job opportunities in Pakistan and will also boost the country’s export volumes by 20 percent.
After the United States, EU is Pakistan’s second largest trading associate. The EU markets import around 25 percent of Pakistani products every year.
